There are a few items you may want to bring along with your cat to help them feel more at home at our cattery, here are our suggestions!
Supplies (Beds, Bowls, Toys):
We have plenty of bedding, food, toys, bowls, litter boxes and litter, we want your cat to feel as comfortable as possible. To keep your cat happy they should have as many items from home that you can bring with you. We recommend you bring their current bed or a favorite blanket (small in size is best) their food bowls, a few favorite toy(s), and we recommend you also bring a piece of personal used clothing with your scent. Due to diet restrictions we do not give cat treats unless it is a treat that is provided by you. Any treats they like should be supplied to us with instructions as this too will help us bond with your kitty.
We do provide all cats a box shaped bed with a cushion called a “Kitty Kasa” We have found that these box shaped beds help cats adjust to the new environment. It gives them a safe and secure place to hide while they adjust to the new environment. These box beds are made of hard plastic and are completely sanitized prior to your cat’s arrival. If your cat doesn’t use this bed we will of course remove it to give them more space.
*we are not responsible for any lost or broken items.
Litter and Litter Boxes:
We provide both litter and litter boxes. Our litter boxes are stainless steel so that they are easily cleaned and sanitized daily. We scoop and remove any messes in the litter boxes at LEAST twice a day. Our goal is to keep the litter boxes spotless, to lower odor and possible accidents. If you have more than two cats staying with us, we provide 2 litter boxes. We do use a pine pellet litter which most cats have no issue using. If your cat is used to other litter types we can sprinkle litter attractant on the litter to insure your kitty is attracted to the litter in the box. If you think your cat may not like pine pellet litter, we ask that you provide us with some litter so that we can transition them to our litter.
In some cases we may ask that you provide us with enough litter for the stay if your cat is very picky about the litter he/she uses. You can ship supplies like food and litter directly to us as needed.
Food:
Any special diet (including Rx food) that your cat is currently eating would need to continue during their stay with us. All of your cat’s food will be held separately and labeled to insure they are the only cat that eats it. All feeding instructions should be provided to us in writing either by email or on paper so that we can place it on their individual suite card to insure they are fed accurately. We feed wet food twice a day, usually 8-9 am and 5-6 pm. Your cat will not share food or bowls with any of our other cats in the cattery. If your cat doesn’t eat wet food twice a day, or has a specific eating schedule we will try to maintain this schedule during their stay.
If you plan for us to provide them our own food in the cattery we ask that you do provide a few days of the current food they are eating at home to lower chances of a GI upset. If you prefer we feed your food, we ask that you give us enough food to last through their entire stay as well as a few additional days of food just in case your travel plans change. Again, food and other supplies can always be shipped directly to us.
Collars:
If your cat is used to wearing a collar you can certainly keep their collar on during their stay with us, but it is not required. We have no requirement for a collar on any cat specifically for their stay with us. All cats are kept separate during their stay and we know which cat is which based on their suite number. When your cat is given exercise time each day, they are the only cat in the room at that time.
If your cat will be wearing a collar during their stay, please insure it is a “break away” collar which is the safest collar for a cat.
Leave the fleas at the door!
All cats at our cattery (residents of our cat rescue and guests of our cattery) are treated with monthly flea and tick treatment (Revolution or Frontline) all year around. All cats must have proof that they do NOT have any fleas or ticks and must pass the flea comb test on the day of arrival to our cattery. This is done within the first 15-20 minutes to insure that no fleas are brought into the cattery. If there is a positive flea comb test, we will have to isolate the cat and treat the cat for fleas with a full flea dip immediately to prevent an outbreak. All fees for this treatment will be incurred by the cat owner. Please be sure to have your cat treated for fleas and ticks prior to arrival to the cattery with a topical flea treatment. We can also provide you with a topical flea and tick treatment the day your cat arrives for an additional $15 (our cost). Just let our cattery personnel know when you arrive and we will apply a topical within the first 30 minutes.
